Mothers Who Make - A Design Collective

Mothers Who Make is a community-led design collective based in Hackney. We are mothers who design and build public furniture and installations that respond to the everyday realities of our lives.

Grounded in lived experience — from navigating the city with children to the lack of spaces for care and play, and the challenges of raising families in precarious housing — our projects turn everyday struggles into design opportunities.

Each project is a hands-on process where mothers gain skills in design and carpentry while shaping public space. By placing those most affected at the centre of design, we show the value of genuinely bottom-up processes — creating spaces that are practical, playful, and rooted in community needs.
